Circuit Switching

Description

Circuit Switching involves changing between physical wires. This will dedicate the bandwidth to a circuit at a time. Physical "End to End" wire. Dumb endpoints with smart network.

Example

Primarily used for telephone wiring, but is also used in some enterprise solutions.

Pros and Cons

Pros: Guaranteed Bandwidth. In-order delivery.

Cons: Disconnection during switching. Resources are wasted if the single host is not using all bandwidth. Not all hosts can communicate constantly. Route cannot change after it is created.
